PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Demian Kongo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cooper has chosen Eminem - Not Afraid as his entrance music. The key to victory for Demian Kongo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Demian Kongo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Winston Howard and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kongo moves to clinch but Cooper breaks away
and Cooper counters with a stiff right hand.
Kongo tries to clinch but Cooper moves out of range.
It seemed like Cooper was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Kongo doesn't manage to clinch there - Cooper circles away.
Cooper throws a push kick but Kongo slaps the foot to one side.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kongo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cooper moves into range and clinches up with Kongo.
Kongo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cooper blocks it with crossed arms.
Kongo with a knee to the head.
Kongo with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Cooper turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Cooper looks up at the clock and then as Kongo takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Cooper smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kongo wants to control but Cooper postures up.

Cooper tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
You can see the frustration on Kongo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kongo is looking for a sweep.
Kongo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cooper working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cooper scores with punches from side control.

Cooper is trying to get an arm triangle but Kongo is defending well.
Kongo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kongo wants to get back to his feet.
Kongo trying to control from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cooper is nestled in close to Kongo, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kongo trying to hold on to Cooper's head to control him but Cooper postures up.
Kongo is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cooper lands a nice short elbow.
Cooper thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kongo's head.
Cooper slips a nice elbow through Kongo's hands, connecting with Kongo's forehead.

Kongo looking for submissions off his back.
Kongo is refusing to be controlled, as Cooper sits in half guard.
Cooper is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Kongo has hold of Cooper's hands but Cooper slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Cooper looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Cooper keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kongo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cooper is working away from the top position though.

Kongo actively working from the bottom here.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Cooper slips a nice elbow through Kongo's hands, connecting with Kongo's forehead.
Cooper takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Cooper landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cooper is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Kongo looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Cooper pushes past his half guard into mount!
Cooper cracks Kongo with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cooper lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Kongo wants to control but Cooper is having none of it.
A nice elbow there by Cooper.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Cooper dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Cooper gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kongo with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Cooper breaks the clinch.
Cooper avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Daniel Cooper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Cooper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cooper lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kongo circles away quickly and effectively.

Cooper has managed to clinch.
Kongo is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Cooper scores with a shot to the side of Kongo's head.
Kongo tries to land a knee to the head but Cooper blocks with his arms.

Kongo is fighting off a takedown attempt but Cooper is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kongo to the mat. Kongo regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cooper throwing strikes from guard but Kongo blocks nicely.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cooper's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Cooper is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kongo trying to keep a closed guard but Cooper is proving a slippery customer.

Kongo preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Kongo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cooper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Daniel Cooper has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kongo has his foot on Cooper's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cooper works his way back into a safe position though.
Cooper trying to control the position from guard on top but Kongo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kongo looking for a guillotine here but Cooper defends easily.
Cooper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kongo is keeping the position for now.

Cooper is in close to Kongo's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kongo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cooper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cooper would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cooper chips away with some ground and pound.
Cooper not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Cooper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kongo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cooper working some strikes from top position.
Cooper is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cooper's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Cooper working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Kongo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cooper defends well.

Cooper is posturing up here but Kongo has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Cooper tries to roll out but it's too tight and Cooper has to tap! Slick submission there by Kongo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Demian Kongo!
Daniel Cooper was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll Be Back'.
