PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adrian Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Odion Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adrian Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Odion Kane!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses with a looping right.

Kane moves into the clinch.

Kane is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Johnson can't fight it off and eventually Kane manages to take the fight to the floor. Johnson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Johnson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kane can do anything to dispel that myth.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Johnson thows a huge punch but Kane dodges it nicely.
Johnson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kane's head.
Johnson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Johnson prevents Kane from improving his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Johnson tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Johnson looks to throw the jab but Kane is out of range.

Kane has managed to clinch.

Kane gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Kane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Johnson controlling the position for now.
Kane throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Johnson keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Kane wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well.
Johnson is pressing down on Kane's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

A close round but Odion Kane will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Kane takes the fight into the clinch.

Kane gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Johnson regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johnson is on top in guard.

Kane can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.
Kane looking for a sweep. Not yet Kane, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kane is proving hard to escape from.
Kane looking to control but Johnson passes into half guard.

Johnson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
It looks like Johnson is going to stand back up.
Johnson controlling the pace.
Adrian Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Johnson is looking for a kimura but Kane is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Johnson to get the leverage.
Johnson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kane has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnson is working away from the top position though.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Kane is defending well.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johnson throws a head kick but Kane moves out of range.
Kane steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Johnson.

Kane clinches.

Kane has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Johnson is trying to keep an underhook but Kane manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Johnson moves into full guard.
Johnson has Kane pulled in close to control his posture.
Kane lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Johnson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Johnson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson has momentary wrist control but Kane slips an elbow through the middle.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kane accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Kane clinches up with Johnson and pushes him back against the cage.
Johnson misses with an elbow over the top.

Odion Kane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Kane forces Johnson back against the cage and clinches.
Johnson has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Johnson tries to stall but Kane uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Kane lands a takedown into guard.
Kane working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kane's guard.

Johnson is fighting to break Kane's control of his arms but Kane is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Johnson wanted to stand there but Kane had control of the position.

Kane has clasped his hands together around Johnson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Johnson parries the strikes from Kane easily there. Kane is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Johnson to escape.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Johnson is stinking the place up with his stalling.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Johnson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Johnson holds on and takes a little breather.
Kane in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Johnson seems keen to control Kane's posture.

Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kane controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself.
Kane might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Kane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Odion Kane is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Odion Kane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kane winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
