PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Draven Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Draven Scott was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Pontes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Draven Scott!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott moves in looking to clinch but Pontes pushes him off.
Scott fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Scott throws a body punch but Pontes moves out of range.
Scott shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pontes as he avoids it easily.
Pontes checks a leg kick.

Pontes feints and as Scott raises his hands in defense, Pontes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pontes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pontes trying to control the position from guard on top but Scott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Scott can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pontes controls the pace.
Scott is looking to stand up but Pontes isn't so interested in that idea.
Pontes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scott throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Pontes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pontes pushes down on Scott's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Well, if Pontes is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Scott is trying to stand.
Pontes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Scott's head.
Scott throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Pontes is nestled in close to Scott, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Pontes is looking to take a break and control but Scott is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pontes is looking for a kimura here.

Pontes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pontes keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pontes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Scott knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Pontes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pontes uses his free foot to push down on Scott's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Scott.
Pontes won't let Scott get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Scott is trying desperately to improve position.

Pontes is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Scott is surviving well by controlling Pontes's body position as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scott flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pontes with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Pontes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Scott is looking to escape.

Pontes swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Scott is now in Pontes's guard. A big mistake from Pontes there, giving up the dominant position!
Scott trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Scott loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Pontes looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Scott tries to free his leg and advance position but Pontes is retaining full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Scott accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pontes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Scott.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Scott is looking to clinch but Pontes is avoiding it.

Pontes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Pontes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Scott tries to lock up and control but Pontes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pontes raining down shots from the mount!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pontes cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Pontes swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Scott is now in Pontes's guard. A big mistake from Pontes there, giving up the dominant position!

Pontes looking for a triangle here. Scott is fighting it but it looks tight! Pontes pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Scott is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Fernando Pontes!
