PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Hull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slade Baxter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slade Baxter will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Hull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Slade Baxter!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baxter misses with a series of wild punches.
Hull moves out of range as Baxter throws a body kick.
Baxter tries to clinch there but Hull circles away.
Hull swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Hull looks for a takedown but Baxter sprawls well.
Hull swats away the attempt to clinch by Baxter.

Baxter rushes Hull and presses him up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Hull lands a shoulder strike.
Hull wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Baxter tries to stall but Hull uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

A short right from Hull on the inside.
Baxter lands a nice knee to the body.
Hull misses with some punches.
Baxter trying to stall but Hull improves his position.
Baxter is trying to break the clinch but Hull has him pressed against the cage.
Hull really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hull looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Baxter has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Hull swings wildly with an uppercut but Baxter uses good head movement to avoid it.
Baxter blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hull keeps control of Baxter as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Baxter is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Hull's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Baxter tries to close the distance and clinch but Hull swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hull swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Baxter pulls out of a head kick attempt.

A shot to the liver by Baxter. Beautiful body shot.
Baxter is looking to clinch but Hull is avoiding it.
Hull throws a quick counter head kick but Baxter was just out of range.

Hull gets tackled into the cage by Baxter. Baxter maintains the clinch.
Baxter tries to stall but Hull uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Baxter tries a body shot but Hull blocks it.
Baxter looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Baxter tries to circle away but Hull has him pinned against the cage.
Hull prevents Baxter from breaking the clinch.
Hull gets through Baxter's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Baxter comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Baxter has Hull pressed against the cage, preventing Hull from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hull lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Baxter backwards.
Baxter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Baxter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Baxter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The fight stays on the outside here - Baxter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hull circles away from the clinch attempt.
It looked like Hull wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Baxter throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Hull closes the distance and clinches.
Baxter blocks an uppercut.
Baxter wants to get back to striking at distance but Hull won't allow it.
Baxter scores a nice knee to the body.

Baxter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hull manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Baxter on his heels. He'll look to pass Baxter's guard now, I'm sure.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hull is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Hull decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Hull avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
It looked like Hull wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Nice takedown defense from Baxter. No joy for Hull on that attempt.
Baxter drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hull defends it well.
Hull fails to land the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chuck Hull will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Baxter doesn't manage to clinch there - Hull circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Baxter enables Hull to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Baxter manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hull gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Baxter moves in looking to clinch but Hull pushes him off.
Hull throws a big counter combination but Baxter scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Chuck Hull is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Baxter throws a head kick but Hull moves out of range.
Baxter tries to clinch but Hull is having none of it.
Baxter tries to clinch up.
Hull fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Baxter avoids it really well and circles away.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chuck Hull.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hull, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
