The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Akpreic or perhaps it was just good defense by Joaquin, which made it look bad.
Joaquin's coach down at Cozad MMA Rio was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Joaquin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Akpreic is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Joaquin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Joaquin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joaquin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Akpreic swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Akpreic escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Joaquin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Akpreic looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Joaquin is defending well. Akpreic quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Joaquin has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Akpreic celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
