PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kory Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik De Boer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying De Boer's choice of entrance music: PSYCHO. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kory Stevens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Erik De Boer!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Boer swats away the attempt to clinch by Stevens.
De Boer now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
De Boer misses with a low kick as Stevens jumps back.

Stevens closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
De Boer wants to control but Stevens is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if De Boer can do anything to dispel that myth.

Stevens stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows De Boer to get to his feet.
De Boer fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Stevens checks it well.
It looked like Stevens was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as De Boer sprawls well. De Boer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stevens gets slowly back to his feet.

De Boer leaves Stevens with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Stevens looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A right-left combo lands from De Boer.
De Boer fails to land with a series of punches.
It looked like Stevens was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Stevens on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Stevens closes the distance and clinches.

De Boer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stevens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Stevens counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Stevens is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables De Boer to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kory Stevens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stevens slows down the pace here.
De Boer takes an elbow to the temple.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Stevens just misses with a elbow thrown towards De Boer's brow.
Stevens keeps control of De Boer as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
De Boer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Stevens jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as De Boer walks away with a smile on his face. Stevens gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

De Boer looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Stevens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. De Boer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. De Boer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
De Boer wants to control from the top but Stevens keeps moving.
Stevens will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

De Boer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
De Boer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Stevens is looking to stand up but De Boer isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stevens is trying to control the position but De Boer postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

De Boer forces Stevens back against the cage and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erik De Boer dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


De Boer throws a front kick that sends Stevens stumbling back into the cage.
Stevens fails in his attempt to clinch.
De Boer lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
De Boer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stevens circles away quickly and effectively.
De Boer misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stevens.
Stevens tries to counter by clinching up but De Boer breaks away and moves out of range.
Stevens slips a jab and a cross from De Boer.
As De Boer tries to get set, Stevens tries to push him back and clinch up but De Boer manages to avoid the attempt.

De Boer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

De Boer tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
You can see the frustration on Stevens's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Stevens is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked De Boer off and has taken his back!

Stevens working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but De Boer is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Stevens has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! De Boer taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kory Stevens!
The defeated Erik De Boer had this to say: 'Damn those tranquilizers last night....'.
