PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Markson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Guifre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kyle Markson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marc Guifre!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guifre changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Markson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Markson tries to buck Guifre off but Guifre is having none of it.

Guifre is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Markson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Guifre misses with the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Guifre trying to control the position but Markson is working away.
Markson regains half guard.
Markson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Markson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Guifre doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Guifre manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Markson looking for a sweep. Not yet Markson, not yet.
Guifre not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Guifre stands and throws Markson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Markson is trying to improve his position.
Markson sneaks back into half guard.
Markson tries to roll over but Guifre keeps him under control.
Guifre takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Guifre tries to pass the half guard into mount. Markson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Markson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Guifre performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Markson manages to get to full guard.

Markson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Guifre's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Guifre's back!

Guifre is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Markson gets his way!
Guifre tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Markson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Guifre has worked his arm free - good work by Guifre!

Markson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Guifre has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Markson but great work by Guifre.

Guifre wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Markson, who protects the arm well.
Guifre controlling the position.
Guifre tries to move to mount but Markson blocks the move with his legs.
Markson is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kyle Markson will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Guifre shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Guifre showed some decent athleticism there.

Markson looking for submissions off his back.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Guifre in particular looking to stall.
Guifre moves into full mount! Markson won't be happy about that!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Markson is trying to reverse the position but instead Guifre has taken his back - oops!

Markson sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Markson gets back to full guard.

Markson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Guifre should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Markson has tightened it up now! Guifre should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
