PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Der Debil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demetrius Floyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Debil comes into the arena with Bulimic blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Floyd's choice of entrance music: Make it bun dem- Skrillex ft. Damian Marley. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Der Debil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Demetrius Floyd!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Floyd stalks Debil and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Debil's face. Debil staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Der Debil has been cut.
Debil shoots in but Floyd avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've been told by Debil's head coaches at Last Dragon MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Debil looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Floyd is fending him off so far but Debil persists. Nope, Floyd circles away and we're back to standing.
Debil is looking to chop away at Floyd's legs.
Debil shoots in for a double leg but Floyd sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Floyd unleashes a big counter combination but Debil bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Der Debil. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Debil gets tackled into the cage by Floyd. Floyd maintains the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Floyd scores with a nice short uppercut.
Floyd's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Floyd's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Floyd comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Floyd pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Floyd darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Debil is trying to stand back up but Floyd is controlling him

Floyd is working for a kimura but Debil is defending it quite comfortably.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Floyd thows a huge punch but Debil dodges it nicely.
Floyd stops Debil from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Floyd is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Floyd connects with a nice short shot to Debil's temple.
Floyd is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Debil is trying to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Floyd seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Debil pushes Floyd off looking to stand but Floyd dives back in and keeps control.
Floyd content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Debil.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Debil thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Debil postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Debil goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Floyd has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Debil but great work by Floyd.
Floyd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Floyd is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Debil knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The strikes coming from Floyd are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Floyd remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Floyd is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Debil is trying to escape and Floyd transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Debil is forced to tap! Nice work there by Floyd! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Demetrius Floyd!
Demetrius Floyd thanked the fans post fight for their support.
In defeat, Der Debil stepped up to the mic, saying 'i did what i can, i have lost this fight but i will learn more and be a better fighter in the future!'.
