The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stamatis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Thrawn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stamatis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Stamatis fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Thrawn.
Stamatis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Thrawn takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Thrawn throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Thrawn fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stamatis, pushing him back against the cage.
Thrawn goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Stamatis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Thrawn tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Thrawn gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stamatis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Thrawn throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Stamatis sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Stamatis is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

and Stamatis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Thrawn walks straight into a right hand from Stamatis - that's dropped him! Stamatis jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Thrawn from any more punishment! Thrawn complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Athan Stamatis decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
