PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Julius Gable (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masaki Kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kimura has chosen Yankee Station as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Julius Gable has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Julius Gable!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Masaki Kimura!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kimura motions for Gable to come forward. Kimura throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Kimura looks to land a body kick but Gable moved away.
Kimura tries to clinch there but Gable circles away.
Gable tries to clinch but Kimura moves out of range.

Kimura closes the distance and clinches.

Kimura breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kimura misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice sprawl there from Kimura as Gable shoots in.
Gable tries to clinch up but Kimura circles away and keeps his distance.
A nice combination there by Gable.
Kimura throws a combination that misses
and Gable counters with a low kick, right behind Kimura 's knee.
Kimura walks forward, straight into a front kick from Gable.
Kimura throws a sloppy head kick and Gable moves out of range easily.
Gable lands with a slapping head kick.
Kimura moves in looking to clinch but Gable pushes him off.
Kimura tries to clinch there but Gable circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gable.

and Gable counters with a body kick.
Gable throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kimura.

Kimura fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nice body kick from Gable.
Kimura looks gassed!
Gable tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Kimura holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Gable is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kimura pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julius Gable. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kimura tries to break the clinch but Gable is controlling the position.
Kimura can't find room to land a body shot as Gable controls the action.
Kimura is looking to control Gable's arms but Gable gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kimura has his back to the cage.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Gable as Kimura tries to tie him up.
Gable lands an elbow that stopped Kimura in his tracks for a moment.
Gable is trying to drag Kimura to the mat but Kimura just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kimura can't break the clinch.
Kimura drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gable gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Gable is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Gable scores a nice knee to the body.
Kimura goes for a takedown attempt but Gable pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gable circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gable stuns Kimura with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kimura throws a lazy head kick
and Gable connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kimura swats away the attempt to clinch by Gable.
Gable shoots for a double leg takedown but Kimura sprawls well. He's pushed Gable's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kimura throws a sloppy head kick
and Gable counters with a head kick. That will keep Kimura thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Kimura gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gable blocks the elbow strike.
Kimura tries a knee to the head but Gable blocks it.
Kimura tries to land a knee to the head but Gable blocks with his arms.
Gable changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kimura fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Gable blocks a head kick by Kimura.
Kimura wants to clinch up but Gable keeps it at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julius Gable dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


A thudding body kick lands there by Kimura!
Gable bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Gable looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kimura is fending him off so far but Gable persists. Nope, Kimura circles away and we're back to standing.

Kimura closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kimura lands in his opponent's guard.
Kimura tries to free his leg and advance position but Gable is retaining full guard.
Kimura is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kimura is looking to work some ground and pound but Gable has wrist control.
Kimura throwing strikes from guard but Gable blocks nicely.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gable being controlled here, momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Kimura has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kimura passes Gable's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kimura tries to pass to full mount but Gable defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Masaki Kimura showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Kimura has taken the fight to the clinch.
Gable on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Kimura has Gable pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gable manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kimura breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gable tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kimura swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kimura is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kimura wants to clinch up but Gable keeps it at a distance.
Gable really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A head kick misses from Kimura.
Masaki Kimura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kimura tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kimura fails with an attempt to clinch.

Kimura clinches up against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kimura is pushing Gable up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Gable fails to pull guard.

Kimura has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gable is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Gable gets underhooks to prevent Kimura's takedown attempt.
Julius Gable has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Masaki Kimura.
Gable wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Gable looking to stall.

Gable has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kimura uses from the top position.
Gable is trying to control the position but Kimura postures up.
Gable wants to control but Kimura passes easily into half guard.
Kimura wants to stand but Gable has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gable wants to control but Kimura is keeping busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kimura performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kimura scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

And that's the end of the fight!
Masaki Kimura comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kimura has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
