PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Moreno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Whiting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Whiting will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Moreno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Whiting!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whiting is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Moreno's half guard.

Moreno pushes Whiting off and gets back to his feet.
Whiting throws a head kick that misses

and Moreno counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Moreno controlling the action here.
Whiting has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Moreno is working away from the top position though.
Whiting is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Whiting is trying to stand back up but Moreno is controlling him

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whiting wants to control the action here but instead Moreno manages to pass to full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whiting tries to lock up and control but Moreno gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Whiting reaches up to try and control the position but Moreno seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Whiting rolls and tries to escape and now Moreno has his back!

Moreno is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Whiting knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Whiting for a finish.

Whiting is covering up but some of the strikes from Moreno are getting through and doing damage.

Moreno will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Whiting is trying to get back to his feet but Moreno has full control of the position and if anything, Whiting has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Whiting just trying to survive but Moreno is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
I really don't envy Whiting right now.
Whiting looks winded!
Moreno biding his time, looking for the opening.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Moreno.
Moreno gets his hands free as Whiting looks to control.
Moreno lands an elbow to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
What can Whiting do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Moreno has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Moreno has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Whiting's body.
Whiting tries to escape but Moreno has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Whiting shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Whiting was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Moreno is pushing Whiting's head away, looking to escape. Whiting manages to hold on to the position though.

Whiting is trying to get an arm triangle but Moreno is defending well.
Moreno is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Whiting wants to work for an arm triangle but Moreno is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Whiting is looking to take a break and control but Moreno is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Whiting is breathing heavily.

Moreno is positioning himself well to prevent Whiting advancing to mount.
Moreno is pressing down on Whiting's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Moreno keeping moving, preventing Whiting from controlling successfully.
Moreno striking off his back but it's not causing Whiting any problems.

Moreno uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Whiting closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Moreno's guard.

Whiting is sitting in close to Moreno's body. Moreno has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Whiting is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Whiting is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Moreno.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jay Moreno!
In defeat, Eric Whiting stepped up to the mic, saying 'Thank you fans for the support and sorry for the loss i can't wait for the next opportunity.....thank you once again'.
