PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sead Macak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sa Pinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pinto has chosen Grande Sá as his entrance music. Sead Macak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sead Macak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sa Pinto!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pinto shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Macak as he jumps to the side.

Macak throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pinto was covering up waiting for the punch and Macak finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Macak trying to control the position from guard on top but Pinto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pinto can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Macak controls the pace.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pinto can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Macak passes Pinto's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Pinto moves into full guard.
Macak trying to control the position from guard on top but Pinto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Macak in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Pinto working for a triangle but Macak defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pinto is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pinto is trying to control the action in half guard but Macak is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pinto looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pinto is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pinto has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Foot Loves. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Macak is trying to maintain the position but Pinto is very close to passing his half guard.
Pinto working the head and body with strikes.
Macak is trying to get back to full guard.
Macak manages to get to full guard.
Pinto wants to control from the top but Macak keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pinto postures up.
Pinto postures up and lands a big shot to Macak's brow.
Pinto controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Macak is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Macak is trying to keep Pinto in close.
Macak is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pinto is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sa Pinto will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Macak darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Macak wants to free his trapped foot but Pinto is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Pinto looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Macak wants to pass the guard but Pinto is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pinto wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Macak thows a huge punch but Pinto dodges it nicely.
Pinto moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Macak has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Macak preventing the sweep.
Macak tries to free his leg and advance position but Pinto is retaining full guard.
Pinto controls Macak momentarily but Macak frees himself.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Macak wants to control from the top but Pinto keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pinto is defended easily by Macak.
Macak lands a lovely overhand right.
Macak throws a body kick that misses.
Pinto doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Macak moves into the clinch.
Pinto is trying to push Macak away but Macak has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Macak will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pinto up against the cage.

Pinto decides to pull guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Macak has gone for a leg lock! Pinto slips out almost immediately though and dives into Macak's guard.

Pinto trying to control the position from guard on top but Macak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pinto distracts Macak with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Macak looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Macak is looking to stand back up but Pinto counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Macak.
Macak is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Pinto scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pinto is trying to work for a kimura but Macak is defending well.
Macak knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pinto on the ground.
Macak is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Macak flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Pinto is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Macak has managed to free his arm - good work.
Macak is looking to control Pinto's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Macak avoid being mounted?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pinto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Macak is just riding it out for now. Pinto eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sead Macak will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Pinto shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Macak defends it nicely.
Macak keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pinto throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Macak's waist but Macak gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pinto off to one side.
Sead Macak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sa Pinto.

Macak gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pinto throws a big right hand that misses.
Pinto loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Macak looking for a sweep. Not yet Macak, not yet.
Macak keeping moving, preventing Pinto from controlling successfully.
Macak is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pinto is controlling him.

Pinto throwing strikes from guard but Macak blocks nicely.
Pinto throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Macak works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Macak is trying to keep Pinto in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pinto shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Macak sprawls well. Macak wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pinto gets slowly back to his feet.

Macak gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Macak gets control of Pinto's arms and successfully pulls guard. Macak will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Macak looking for a sweep. Not yet Macak, not yet.
Macak wants to stand up but Pinto is controlling him.
Macak can't keep his opponent in guard - Pinto advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Pinto looks to land a strike but Macak avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Macak is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Pinto trying to control but Macak is working from the bottom.
Macak looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pinto is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pinto drops back looking for a leg! Macak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Macak manages to kick Pinto off! Pinto jumps back into Macak's guard.
Pinto pushes down on Macak's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Macak is looking to control Pinto's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Macak avoid being mounted?
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pinto lands a nice short elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pinto is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Macak sees it coming and defends easily.

Pinto looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Macak wants to control but Pinto is keeping busy.

Macak works his way to full guard. Good work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sa Pinto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pinto has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
