PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joan Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Manning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manning has chosen Greasy Chip Buttie as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Joan Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, George Manning!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wells gets caught napping as Manning dives in and scores a takedown. Wells manages to retain guard.
Manning is looking to work some ground and pound but Wells has wrist control.
Wells trying to control the position here.
Wells is trying to control the position but Manning postures up.
Wells looking to hit a scissor sweep but Manning is one step ahead there.
Wells doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manning stands up out of Wells's guard for a moment - Wells manages to land a nice upkick.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Manning accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Manning throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Wells trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Wells has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wells throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wells is on top in guard.


Manning throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Wells stands up from Manning's guard - Wells perhaps looking for a knockout.

Manning scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
I wouldn't like to be where Wells is right now.
Wells is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Manning really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wells. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wells wants to control but Manning is keeping busy.

Wells pushes Manning off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Manning drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wells manages to get back to half guard.
Manning is looking to take a break and control but Wells is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wells landing a few short strikes.
Wells is trying to control but can't.
Nice strikes from Manning there.
Wells is controlling Manning's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wells avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Manning.
Wells wants to control but Manning is keeping busy.
Manning drops an elbow to the side of Wells's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Manning throwing shots but Wells is blocking nicely.
Wells trying to control but Manning postures up.
Wells works his way to full guard. Good work.
Manning being controlled here momentarily.
Wells striking off his back but it's not causing Manning any problems.
Wells is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Manning won't allow Wells to sweep him here.
Wells lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Manning is looking to stand back up but Wells counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Manning.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wells looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Wells is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Manning is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Joan Wells!
