Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Betty Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Terrence McSweeney!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McSweeney closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Nice elbow from Cannon.
McSweeney is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cannon pulls him back up using the underhooks.
McSweeney drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cannon pulls guard.
McSweeney preventing the sweep.
Cannon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cannon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cannon landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Cannon content to control rather than advance.

Cannon has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
McSweeney is desperately trying to improve his position but Cannon has a good base and remains in mount.
Cannon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of McSweeney's face.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cannon jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McSweeney manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Cannon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McSweeney for as long as he can get away with.
Cannon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Cannon decides to stand back up. Cannon steps back and let's McSweeney get back to his feet.

and McSweeney counters with a lovely straight right hand!

McSweeney misses with a takedown attempt - Cannon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
As McSweeney looks to move away, Cannon throws a big counter combo bu McSweeney just gets out of the way.
Betty Cannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Terrence McSweeney.
Cannon tries to score a power double leg takedown but McSweeney sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cannon somewhat.

Cannon drives through with a takedown into McSweeney's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

McSweeney shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cannon counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
McSweeney is trying to control but can't.

Cannon slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cannon decides to return to a standing position.
McSweeney misses with a takedown attempt - Cannon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A combination from McSweeney does no damage.
Cannon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McSweeney swivels and escapes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cannon fails to land the takedown.
Betty Cannon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McSweeney doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Cannon counters by moving into the clinch.

Cannon successfully pulls guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cannon is on top in guard.


Cannon gets to his feet. McSweeney looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cannon closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McSweeney to the mat! McSweeney manages to get full guard.
Cannon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Cannon.

Cannon gets to his feet - McSweeney follows without any prompting.
Cannon dives in for a single leg takedown but McSweeney sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Cannon tries to clinch there but McSweeney circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cannon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McSweeney defends it nicely.
McSweeney throws out a counter right but Cannon avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Betty Cannon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cannon gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and McSweeney counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cannon moves in looking to clinch but McSweeney pushes him off.
Cannon sets himself, and McSweeney steps forward looking for the clinch! Cannon avoids it this time.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cannon.
McSweeney is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Cannon connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused McSweeney some visible discomfort.

Cannon tries for a kimura but McSweeney is defending well.

McSweeney tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Cannon easily slips into full mount!

Cannon gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

McSweeney closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McSweeney prevents the takedown attempt.
McSweeney gets through Cannon's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Cannon manages to break the clinch.
McSweeney is looking to slow Cannon down with leg kicks.
McSweeney shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cannon moves into the clinch.
McSweeney is trying to maintain a safe position but Cannon gets an underhook and turns McSweeney into the cage.
McSweeney is trying to break free.
A left hand lands to the body for Cannon.
McSweeney has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Cannon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cannon instigates a clinch.
Cannon stalling against the cage.
Cannon stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Cannon seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Cannon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Cannon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cannon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cannon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McSweeney swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McSweeney won't allow Cannon to pass to mount.
Cannon trying to control the pace.
McSweeney trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Cannon manages to pass to mount!
Betty Cannon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cannon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of McSweeney's face.

Cannon is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, McSweeney has managed to escape the submission attempt.
McSweeney is in a horrible position here. Cannon smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Cannon wants to take McSweeney's back here but McSweeney is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Cannon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McSweeney can do to turn this around?

Cannon has isolated one of McSweeney's arms. McSweeney looking to fight him off but Cannon twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
