PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dan Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shizuko Kentaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kentaro has chosen Bloodsport as his entrance music. Shizuko Kentaro is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Gray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Shizuko Kentaro!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Steven Brown and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kentaro tries a head kick but it misses.
Kentaro darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Shizuko Kentaro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kentaro swats away the attempt to clinch by Gray.
Kentaro tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kentaro throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gray darts in and clinches Kentaro up against the cage.
Kentaro lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Dan Gray has been cut.
Kentaro doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Gray content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Gray jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kentaro walks away with a smile on his face. Gray gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kentaro misses with a straight right.
Gray scores with a jab to the head.

Gray closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kentaro quickly recovers to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gray wants to control but Kentaro is keeping him busy.

Gray landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Kentaro wants to get back to his feet.
Gray with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Gray works his foot free and advances to mount.
Kentaro wants to hold on but Gray pushes him away.
Kentaro is squirming around, avoiding Gray's attempts to control the action.
Kentaro really wants to buck Gray off and get back to his feet.

Kentaro wants to control but Gray is having none of it.
Gray will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kentaro is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Kentaro felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kentaro wants to get back to his feet.

Gray jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kentaro manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Kentaro tries to improve position but can't.

Gray wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kentaro, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kentaro is pushing Gray's head away, looking to escape. Gray manages to hold on to the position though.

Gray decides to stand back up. Gray steps back and let's Kentaro get back to his feet.
Gray slips a jab from Kentaro.
Gray throws the kick towards the body but Kentaro avoids it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gray will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kentaro throws a hook to the side of Gray's head but Gray sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shizuko Kentaro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters circling - Kentaro throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Gray thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kentaro if he has to take too many more of those.

Nice sprawl there from Kentaro as Gray shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Gray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kentaro lands a glancing blow to the side of Gray's head.

Gray really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kentaro fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gray shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Kentaro connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kentaro might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Gray shoots for a double leg takedown but Kentaro sprawls well. He's pushed Gray's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gray has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kentaro finds it's way round the side to connect with Gray's head.

Kentaro throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kentaro displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gray.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kentaro! But no joy.
Gray shoots in for a double leg but Kentaro sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nice takedown defense from Kentaro. No joy for Gray on that attempt.
Gray takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gray drops his hands momentarily and Kentaro takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gray fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shizuko Kentaro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Gray gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gray.
Kentaro lands with a slapping head kick.

Kentaro looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kentaro gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kentaro has a closed guard, preventing Gray from standing up.

Kentaro looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gray postures up.
Gray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kentaro swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gray is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kentaro has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Gray is looking to defend but Kentaro has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Gray! Kentaro pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Gray taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Shizuko Kentaro!
Shizuko Kentaro gave a mention to Mizuko Wear in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
