PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between jeramie smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zack Mathiew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathiew misses with a low kick.

Mathiew drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mathiew looking to pass the guard.
Mathiew wants to stand but smith is controlling his posture from full guard.

smith uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Mathiew takes one to the chin there.
A low kick from smith is predictable there

and Mathiew holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mathiew trying to stall but smith improves his position.
smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mathiew smiles and moves away.
Mathiew tries to clinch there but smith circles away.
smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mathiew as he avoids it easily.

and smith moves into the clinch.

Mathiew is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. smith can't fight it off and eventually Mathiew manages to take the fight to the floor. smith looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
smith pulls Mathiew in close to prevent any damage.

Mathiew wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by smith, who protects the arm well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

smith bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Mathiew lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A nice leg kick lands there from Mathiew.
Mathiew shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and smith counters with a single leg into guard. Mathiew didn't expect that.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mathiew working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mathiew had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mathiew Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take smith's back instead.

Mathiew is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! smith is tapping out! This one is all over!
