PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Berlin MacLeod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Hermiston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hermiston has chosen Rusty Cage as his entrance music. Andrew Hermiston will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Berlin MacLeod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew Hermiston!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacLeod tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hermiston fails with a takedown attempt.
Hermiston walks into a straight right hand from MacLeod.


It looks like Andrew Hermiston has been cut.
MacLeod with a poor takedown

and Hermiston moves into the clinch.
MacLeod jumps guard but Hermiston stands there with MacLeod around his waist. MacLeod gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hermiston misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from MacLeod.
Hermiston drops down looking for an ankle pick but MacLeod pulls his leg out and moves away.
MacLeod pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
MacLeod looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Hermiston misses with a wild body shot.
MacLeod fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hermiston manages to avoid it.
MacLeod thuds his right hand into Hermiston's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Hermiston slips under a jab.
Hermiston keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Hermiston fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with MacLeod, pushing him back against the cage.

MacLeod wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hermiston tries to land a knee to the head but MacLeod blocks with his arms.

MacLeod has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hermiston clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Hermiston manages to reverse the position and now he's in MacLeod's guard. Nice work there by Hermiston.
MacLeod thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Hermiston throwing strikes but missing.
Hermiston trying to control the position from guard on top but MacLeod is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hermiston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with MacLeod. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hermiston is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

MacLeod working for submissions but it's allowed Hermiston to get to half guard.

Well, if Hermiston is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hermiston postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for MacLeod to stand up.

Hermiston darts in and clinches MacLeod up against the cage.
Hermiston misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from MacLeod.
MacLeod takes an elbow to the forehead.

MacLeod manages to break the clinch.
MacLeod stuffs the takedown.

MacLeod darts in trying to clinch

and Hermiston counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hermiston.
MacLeod prevents a takedown attempt there.
MacLeod is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

MacLeod pulls guard successfully.
Hermiston trying to control but MacLeod is working from the bottom.
MacLeod wants to stand and escape but Hermiston is having none of it.
Hermiston stays in close to MacLeod's body and controls the position.
MacLeod is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hermiston wants to control from the top but MacLeod keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MacLeod is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hermiston is controlling him.
MacLeod looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hermiston is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hermiston clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Berlin MacLeod will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Andrew Hermiston's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


MacLeod misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Hermiston counters by clinching up.

Hermiston is trying to trip MacLeod. He has hold of a leg but MacLeod is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hermiston persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
MacLeod wants to get back to his feet but Hermiston is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hermiston must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

MacLeod looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

MacLeod looking for a guillotine here but Hermiston defends easily.
Hermiston is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hermiston chips away with some ground and pound.
Hermiston won't allow MacLeod to get back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hermiston stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Good leg kick by MacLeod there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Hermiston shoots in but no luck this time.
Hermiston is breathing heavily.

MacLeod looking very determined here, making life difficult for Hermiston.

Hermiston wants to control but MacLeod is keeping busy.
What can MacLeod do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
MacLeod is looking to stand up but Hermiston won't let him.

Hermiston is working an open guard so MacLeod takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hermiston moves out of range as MacLeod strikes.

Hermiston has managed to clinch.

Hermiston manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hermiston has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but MacLeod has passed into side control.
MacLeod in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Hermiston gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hermiston is pressing down on MacLeod's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's time! MacLeod's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


MacLeod stuffs the takedown attempt from Hermiston. Hermiston gets slowly back to his feet.
Hermiston steps to the side to avoid the strikes from MacLeod.
Hermiston changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
MacLeod throws a right and a left that Hermiston avoids nicely.

Hermiston closes the distance and clinches.
Hermiston connects with a nasty looking knee right to MacLeod's face.
MacLeod wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hermiston jumps guard and drags MacLeod to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

MacLeod drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hermiston looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hermiston looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hermiston!
MacLeod tries to bench press Hermiston off him but Hermiston keeps the position.

MacLeod is looking for a sweep.

MacLeod tries to kick Hermiston off but Hermiston keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

MacLeod kicks off Hermiston and gets to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from MacLeod as Hermiston shoots in.
MacLeod throws a right hand that Hermiston ducks under and follows up with a left that Hermiston also avoids with ease.
MacLeod misses with a double jab.

Hermiston closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Hermiston has hold of one of MacLeod's legs. MacLeod is fighting the takedown attempt but Hermiston gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

MacLeod scrambles and gets back to his feet.
MacLeod misses with a body shot

and Hermiston holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hermiston goes for a takedown attempt but MacLeod pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Berlin MacLeod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Hermiston.
MacLeod stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

and Hermiston counters by moving into the clinch.

Hermiston has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but MacLeod regains guard immediately.

Hermiston stays in close to MacLeod's body and controls the position.

MacLeod is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
MacLeod is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Andrew Hermiston has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hermiston tries to free his leg and advance position but MacLeod is retaining full guard.
Hermiston working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
