Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Rafael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pedro Rafael!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matheus Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rafael but Rafael pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rodriguez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rodriguez unleashes a big counter combination but Rafael bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Rodriguez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Rafael changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rodriguez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Rafael tries to move to mount but Rodriguez blocks the move with his legs.
Rodriguez tries to improve position but can't.
Rodriguez regains half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rafael is taking a breather. Rodriguez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Rafael is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rodriguez sees it coming and defends easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rafael tries to pass to full mount but Rodriguez defends it.
Rodriguez wants to get back to his feet.

Rafael is taking a breather. Rodriguez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rodriguez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rodriguez wants it to stay on the feet.
Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rafael paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rafael is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rodriguez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Rafael closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rodriguez is trying to improve his position.

Rafael thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rodriguez tries to escape but Rafael is in control.

Rodriguez is trying to control Rafael's posture but Rafael avoids it.

Rodriguez is looking to control Rafael's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rodriguez avoid being mounted?
Rafael has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Rafael tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Rafael goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rodriguez turns into him and now he's in Rafael's guard.

Rafael manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rodriguez manages to get himself to full guard.

Rafael is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Rodriguez is looking to improve his position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Rodriguez clinches with his opponent.
Rafael jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rodriguez walks away with a smile on his face. Rafael gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rodriguez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rafael manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rodriguez dives in and grabs Rafael's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rafael pushes down on Rodriguez's head and hops out.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rafael as he jumps to the side.

Rafael has closed the distance and engaged Rodriguez in a clinch.
Rafael is working for takedown but Rodriguez is calmly controlling the position for now.

Rafael wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rodriguez has him pressed against the cage.
Rodriguez is looking for a takedown.
Pedro Rafael has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matheus Rodriguez.
Rodriguez blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Rafael has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rodriguez after a bit of a struggle.

Rafael has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rodriguez uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rafael seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Rafael is looking for a triangle but Rodriguez pushes his legs off easily.

Rafael is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rafael seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Rodriguez is trying to get back to full guard.
Rodriguez misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Rafael has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Rodriguez is looking to improve his position but Rafael isn't that keen on the idea.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rafael tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Rodriguez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rodriguez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Rafael has hold of Rodriguez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rodriguez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rafael, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
