The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stuart closes the distance and clinches.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sarmients is on top in guard.

Stuart has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Sarmients is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Stuart breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That was a close round but I would say that Nolan Stuart will probably get the nod.

Sarmients shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stuart manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Stuart has control of Sarmients's left arm, preventing Sarmients from doing any damage.

Sarmients has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stuart with a couple of short strikes.
Nolan Stuart overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sarmients sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Stuart is looking for a kimura but Sarmients is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stuart to get the leverage.

Sarmients throws his legs up looking for a submission but Stuart uses it to pass to side control.

Stuart is trying to get an arm triangle but Sarmients is defending well.
The strikes coming from Stuart are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Sarmients is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Stuart is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stuart lands a nice short elbow.

Stuart looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Stuart has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nolan Stuart.
Well Stuart has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
