PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Hard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Rickson Silva was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva rushes Hard and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hard drops down looking for an ankle pick but Silva pulls his leg out and moves away.
Silva stuffs the takedown.
Hard wants to clinch

and Silva counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Silva.

Silva has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hard clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Silva has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hard has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Hard is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Silva gets his way!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hard connects with the punch.
Hard dips to his left and cracks Silva with an uppercut!

Hard has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hard shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Silva counters by clinching up.

Silva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hard is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Silva off and has taken his back!
Hard is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Hard gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Hard gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Hard apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Silva slips a jab and a cross from Hard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hard misses with a takedown attempt
and Silva counters with an inside leg kick.
A left and a right from Hard both land. Nice combination.
Hard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!

Hard closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hard lands in his opponent's guard.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hard stands and steps away. Silva gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Hard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Hard passes Silva's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva is not content to let Hard control the position.

Hard is trying to work for a kimura but Silva is defending well.
Hard tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Hard trying to mount his opponent but Silva defends it.
Hard thows a huge punch but Silva dodges it nicely.
Hard throwing shots but Silva is blocking nicely.

Hard has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Silva defend it? Hard steps over the head and cranks it - Silva is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hard!
