PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Hartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rune Runman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Hartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rune Runman!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Runman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hartman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Runman throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Hartman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hartman walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hartman shoots in and drives through. Runman sprawls well.
Hartman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Runman defends it nicely.
Good work by Hartman as he checks the leg kick.
Runman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Hartman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Runman throws a series of punches but Hartman moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hartman gets a takedown into half guard.
Hartman prevents Runman from improving his position.

Hartman seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Hartman decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Runman misses with a takedown attempt

and Hartman counters with a shoot takedown. Runman fights it but they end up in guard.
Hartman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Runman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hartman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Runman is proving hard to escape from.
Hartman looking to sit in guard and control but Runman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Runman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Runman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Runman wants to control from the top but Hartman keeps moving.
Hartman preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Runman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hartman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hartman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Runman manages to get himself to full guard.

Hartman content to stall in guard here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hartman won't allow Runman to get back to his feet.
Runman wants to sweep here but Hartman controlling him for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hartman trying to control the position from guard on top but Runman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hartman looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Runman throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hartman won't allow Runman to sweep him here.
Runman throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Hartman dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Runman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hartman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hartman wants it to stay on the feet.
Runman throws a push kick but Hartman slaps the foot to one side.
Runman throws a head kick that misses.
Nice takedown defense from Runman. No joy for Hartman on that attempt.

Hartman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Runman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hartman decides to stand back up. Hartman steps back and let's Runman get back to his feet.
Runman misses with a head kick.

Hartman shoots for a double leg takedown but Runman sprawls well. He's pushed Hartman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nice takedown defense from Runman. No joy for Hartman on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Hartman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hartman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Runman's waist but Runman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hartman off to one side.
Rune Runman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hartman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Runman napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Runman is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hartman is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Hartman wants to control the pace but Runman is squirming around nicely.
Runman tries to lock up and control but Hartman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hartman looking to finish Runman with some ground and pound. This is bad for Runman!

Hartman goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Runman turns into him and now he's in Hartman's guard.
Runman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hartman is keeping the position for now.

Runman wants to control from the top but Hartman keeps moving.
Jon Hartman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hartman is looking for a triangle but Runman pushes his legs off easily.
Runman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hartman is keeping the position for now.

Hartman trying to control the position.
Runman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Runman tries to stand but Hartman is controlling from the bottom.
Runman trying to control the position from guard on top but Hartman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hartman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Runman wants to stand but Hartman is controlling his posture from full guard.

Runman is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hartman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hartman has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Hartman dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Runman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Runman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hartman.

Hartman shoots in and bounces Runman off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Runman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Runman prevents Hartman from improving his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Runman is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Well, if Runman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Runman moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Hartman.

Runman looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Hartman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Runman can do to turn this around?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hartman is looking to regain half guard here but Runman keeps moving and retains side control.

Runman stands up.
Runman misses with a takedown attempt
and Hartman counters with a big head kick but Runman shrugs it off.
Jon Hartman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Runman leaves Hartman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Runman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hartman avoids it really well and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Hartman. No joy for Runman on that attempt.
Jon Hartman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rune Runman.
Runman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hartman slaps away a takedown attempt from Runman, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Hartman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Runman to the mat! Runman manages to get full guard.

Hartman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hartman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hartman trying to control but Runman is working from the bottom.

Runman is working an open guard so Hartman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hartman tries for a takedown but Runman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hartman stuffs the takedown attempt from Runman. Runman gets slowly back to his feet.
Runman darts in looking for a takedown but Hartman gets double underhooks and turns Runman into the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hartman trying to control the position from guard on top but Runman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Hartman showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hartman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
