PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Niko Laus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Lumber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lumber has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Jack Lumber has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Niko Laus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Lumber!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laus looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lumber is fending him off so far but Laus persists. Nope, Lumber circles away and we're back to standing.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Lumber with a lazy takedown attempt
and Laus counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Laus gets a clinch.
The referee calls for Laus to work.

Laus breaks from the clinch.
Jack Lumber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lumber scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Laus wants to clinch up but Lumber keeps it at a distance.
Lumber keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A combination from Lumber does no damage.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Laus.
Laus in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Lumber is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Laus tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Laus has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lumber is looking for a sweep.
Laus moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lumber is trying to control Laus's posture but Laus avoids it.

Laus tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Laus has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Lumber's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Laus just content to control the position.
Lumber is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Laus is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Laus content just to control the position here.
Lumber is arching his back trying to strike from the bottom but Laus turns him over and now has his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lumber has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Laus.

Lumber wants to escape the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Niko Laus dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Laus will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lumber tries for a takedown but Laus circles away easily

and Laus counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Laus perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Lumber avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Laus.
Lumber is staying active underneath Laus, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Laus in particular looking to stall.

Laus stands up and beckons Lumber to join him on the feet.
Lumber wants to clinch but Laus slips to the side

and Laus counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Laus is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lumber defends it well.
Laus wants to pass the guard but Lumber is defending well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lumber keeping hold of Laus's head, controlling as best he can.
Laus stops Lumber from getting back to his feet.
Laus controlling the pace.

Laus decides to stand and escape the position.
Laus throws a sloppy head kick and Lumber moves out of range easily.
Horrible takedown by Laus or perhaps it was just good defense by Lumber which made him look bad.
Lumber works over Laus's head and body with a nice combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Laus looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Lumber!
Lumber reaches up to try and control the position but Laus seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Lumber rolls and tries to escape and now Laus has his back!
Lumber tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Lumber is controlling an arm, preventing Laus from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Laus controlling the pace for now.
Laus thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Lumber looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Laus is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Lumber defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Lumber really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Laus working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Lumber is doing well to defend. Laus seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Lumber is forced to tap and this one is over!
