PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Nevsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morris kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is happy. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aaron Morris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexander Nevsky!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nevsky rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Morris moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nevsky doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Morris makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Nevsky dives in and scores a takedown into Morris's guard.
My spies in English Top Team inform me that Nevsky has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Morris working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nevsky doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nevsky manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nevsky postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morris wants to sweep but no luck.

Morris is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Nevsky asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ground and pound from Nevsky seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Nevsky has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Morris is trying to control Nevsky's posture but Nevsky avoids it.

Morris parries the strikes from Nevsky easily there. Nevsky is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Morris to escape.

That's time! Morris's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Morris lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Morris seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Nevsky takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Nevsky throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Morris tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Nevsky is in Morris's guard.

Morris has his foot on Nevsky's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nevsky works his way back into a safe position though.

Morris drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Morris jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Nevsky shoots for a double leg takedown but Morris sprawls well. He's pushed Nevsky's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Nevsky changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Aaron Morris.
I think Morris has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Aaron Morris took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
Alexander Nevsky was interviewed post fight and said 'Well ... what can I say ... my opponent was better than me tonight and congratulations for him! But I will come back strong and better prepared next time and put on a show for you guys !!!!'.
