PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boston Dallas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dallas's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Bo-lieve. Jack Gates is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boston Dallas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Gates!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Joseph Jones and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gates takes a jab right on the kisser.
Dallas scores with a hook to the body. Gates takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Dallas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dallas wants it to stay on the feet.
Gates changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dallas tries to avoid it but Gates manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dallas to the ground. Dallas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gates with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Dallas to score with a decent uppercut.
Dallas tries to close the distance and clinch but Gates swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gates uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Dallas.
Dallas thows a left - swing and a miss!
Dallas misses the jab.
Gates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boston Dallas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Gates.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dallas connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Gates shoots in but Dallas avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dallas throws a series of punches but Gates avoids them all with ease.
Gates moves out of range as Dallas strikes.

Gates throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dallas's waist but Dallas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gates off to one side.

Gates has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dallas after a bit of a struggle.

Dallas wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gates has him pressed against the cage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dallas throws a right hand that Gates ducks under and follows up with a left that Gates also avoids with ease.
Gates tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Dallas throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gates.

Gates feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Dallas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

and Gates decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dallas's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gates works over Dallas with some ground and pound from guard.
Gates makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gates's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gates wants to control from the top but Dallas keeps moving.
Gates throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gates has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gates stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dallas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Dallas is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Gates shoots for a takedown but Dallas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Boston Dallas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gates closes the distance and clinches up with Dallas, looking for a takedown. Gates pushes Dallas against the cage but Dallas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Dallas slaps away a takedown attempt from Gates, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dallas appears to be looking for a big counter.

Dallas wants to clinch up but Gates keeps it at a distance.

Gates closes the distance and clinches up with Dallas, looking for a takedown. Gates pushes Dallas against the cage but Dallas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Dallas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Gates scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Dallas to see if he's OK.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Dallas tries to bum rush Gates with a series of wild strikes but Gates uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gates dives in and grabs Dallas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dallas pushes down on Gates's head and hops out.
Gates takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dallas throws the left hand but Gates avoids the punch easily.
Dallas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gates swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dallas looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dallas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gates moves away.

Gates goes for a double leg but Dallas avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dallas continues to drive forward.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dallas enables Gates to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dallas manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gates is pushing down on Dallas's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dallas is fighting to maintain full guard but Gates has managed to sneak the leg through.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gates lands a nice short elbow.

Gates is stalling here. Dallas is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Gates seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dallas has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Gates felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
