PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nico Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Caisse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nico Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Caisse!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Caisse darts in and clinches Johnson up against the cage.
Johnson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Caisse turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Caisse manages to end up in side control.
Caisse creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Johnson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Caisse.
Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Caisse keeps moving and retains side control.
Johnson struggling a bit here.
Caisse cracks Johnson with an elbow. That is naaassty.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ground and pound from Caisse seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Caisse tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Caisse has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Johnson can't do much from the bottom here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Caisse looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Caisse in side control lands a decent elbow.
Caisse trying to control the position but Johnson is working away.

Caisse tries for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.
Caisse tries to move to mount but Johnson blocks the move with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Caisse tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Caisse sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Johnson is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Caisse working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Johnson is looking to reverse the position.

Caisse thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Caisse throws an elbow but Johnson slips to the side and avoids it well.
Johnson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Caisse crashes against the mat.

Caisse goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Johnson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Caisse's guard! Nice work there by Johnson!
Johnson scoring with punches to the head and body.
Caisse looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.
Caisse working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson.
Johnson wants to control from the top but Caisse keeps moving.
Johnson is really struggling to control Caisse but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Johnson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Caisse works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Johnson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Caisse's head.
Johnson slips nicely into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Johnson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Caisse does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Caisse dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Johnson takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Jean Caisse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Caisse misses with a double jab.

Caisse closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Johnson did well to prevent Caisse getting side control.
Johnson has hold of Caisse's hands but Caisse slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Caisse lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Johnson! More strikes land and this one is all over! Caisse jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jean Caisse!
Jean Caisse bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
