Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Meguru Takayanagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Orange Joe!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takayanagi gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Takayanagi gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Joe.
Joe is looking to break free of the clinch but Takayanagi has double underhooks.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Takayanagi creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Nice body punch from Takayanagi - that landed with a thud.
Takayanagi misses with a hook from the clinch.
Joe working some nice short punches in the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Takayanagi.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Joe misses with a hook to the ribs.
Takayanagi throws a punch but it's blocked by Joe.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takayanagi swings wildly with an uppercut but Joe uses good head movement to avoid it.
Takayanagi lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Takayanagi prevents a takedown attempt there.

Joe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Joe, right into the meat.

Joe gets tackled into the cage by Takayanagi. Takayanagi maintains the clinch.
Takayanagi gets underhooks to prevent Joe's takedown attempt.
I was talking to Takayanagi's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Meguru Takayanagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Orange Joe.
Joe lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Takayanagi backwards.
Joe jumps guard but Takayanagi turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Joe ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Joe no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Joe looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Joe is looking for a triangle here but Takayanagi uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Takayanagi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Takayanagi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Joe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Takayanagi has hold of Joe's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Joe seems comfortable defending it but Takayanagi has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Joe is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Joe is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Takayanagi couldn't care less - he's delighted!
