Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimi Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powell comes to the cage accompanied by 8 Mile. Simmons has chosen PAIN IS TEMPORARY - PRIDE IS FOREVER as his entrance music. Chuck Simmons is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Simmons!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simmons shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Powell's guard.

Powell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Simmons on the ground.
Simmons is trying to control. Powell wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Simmons has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Simmons seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Powell has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Simmons is working away from the top position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Simmons gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Powell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Powell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Simmons circles away quickly and effectively.
Simmons drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Powell defends it well.
Horrible takedown attempt by Simmons or perhaps it was just good defense by Powell, which made it look bad.

Simmons dives in for a single leg takedown but Powell sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Jimi Powell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Simmons.
Powell shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Powell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Simmons working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Powell trying to keep a closed guard but Simmons is proving a slippery customer.

Simmons drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Powell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Simmons has Powell in his guard.

Powell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simmons can do anything to dispel that myth.

Powell wants to control from the top but Simmons keeps moving.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Simmons dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Simmons shoots in and drives through. Powell sprawls well.
Simmons takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Simmons shoots for a double leg takedown but Powell sprawls well. He's pushed Simmons's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Powell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Powell wants it to stay on the feet.
Jimi Powell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Simmons.
Powell lands with a shot to the body.
Powell slaps away a takedown attempt from Simmons, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Simmons takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Nice straight punches there by Powell. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Powell.
Simmons is breathing heavily.
Simmons is trying hard to land a takedown here. Powell sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Powell keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Powell cracks Simmons with a right hand to the side of the head.

and Simmons decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Powell's guard.
Simmons postures up in Powell's guard and throws a big left but Powell blocks it.

Powell wants to sweep here but Simmons controlling him for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Powell scores with a sloppy right hand. Simmons should have avoided that one.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Simmons misses with a takedown attempt - Powell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Powell clobbers Simmons with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Powell lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Jimi Powell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Powell cracks Simmons with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Simmons looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Powell finish him?


Simmons is rocked!

Powell drops Simmons with a huge uppercut! Simmons drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Powell is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimi Powell!
A relieved looking Jimi Powell thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
Chuck Simmons was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll work harder, and I'll be back!'.
