PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stig Helmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia has chosen Ballad Of A Dead Soulja as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stig Helmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Roberto Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helmer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Garcia circles away quickly and effectively.
Garcia looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Helmer scores with a jab to the body.
We've been informed that Garcia has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Helmer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Helmer is looking to take a break and control but Garcia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Helmer tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Garcia.
Garcia on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Helmer connects with a nice short shot to Garcia's temple.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Helmer postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Garcia to stand up.

Helmer shoots in and bounces Garcia off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We've been hearing that Helmer has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Helmer stands up and waves to Garcia to follow him.
Helmer ducks under a wild hook from Garcia.
Helmer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Garcia looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Helmer misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Garcia.
Garcia avoids the body shot from Helmer.
Helmer shoots in for a takedown but Garcia shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Garcia keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Garcia let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Garcia throws a lazy uppercut
and Helmer counters with a series of strikes. Garcia will be more careful next time no doubt.

Helmer scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Helmer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Garcia down.

Helmer advances nicely into full mount.
Garcia is still in real trouble! Can Helmer finish him?

Helmer postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Garcia badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Helmer around the waist but Helmer pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Helmer is the winner by TKO! Helmer jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stig Helmer!
During a confident post fight interview, Stig Helmer thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
