PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chester Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Ken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chester Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Ken!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ken looks to score with a jab to the body but Tate is just out of range.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Ken - that will leave a mark!

Ken closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ken wants to take a breather but Tate is having none of it.
Tate won't allow Ken to pass to mount.
Tate pushes Ken off looking to stand but Ken dives back in and keeps control.
Tate is looking for a sweep. Ken is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tate tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Ken manages to move to mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ken throws some wild stikes that Tate manages to avoid easily.
Ken tries to control but Tate wriggling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tate is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Ken throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ken wants to control but Tate has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Ken prevents Tate from standing back up.
Ken tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Tate.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ken sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tate defending well though.
Ken seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tate does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Tate really is a fat lump.
Ken tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Tate.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ken lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Ken feints and as Tate raises his hands in defense, Ken changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tate trying to control the position.

Tate kicks Ken off and gets to his feet.
Ken looks winded!

Ken throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tate tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ken is in Tate's guard.
Ken has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tate is proving hard to escape from.
Tate might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tate keeping moving, preventing Ken from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ken is looking to stand up but Tate won't let him.
Tate lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ken has a closed guard, preventing Tate from standing up.
Tate working some strikes from top position.
Tate scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tate sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Tate throwing strikes from guard but Ken blocks nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tate gets to his feet - Ken follows without any prompting.

Ken drives through with a takedown into Tate's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Ken shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ken trying to control but Tate is working from the bottom.
Tate has his hands on Ken's head, controlling the position.
Ken trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ken wants to get up but he can't break Tate's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Tate wants to stand and escape but Ken is having none of it.

Ken must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ken is breathing heavily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ken feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ken is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.
Tate wants to stand but Ken is controlling the position.
Ken has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ken has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tate is proving hard to escape from.

Tate wants to sweep but no luck.
Tate is looking to stand up but Ken isn't so interested in that idea.
Tate managing to control the position.
Tate wants to stand and escape but Ken is having none of it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Ken wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Tate's closed guard. He's half up but Tate has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Tate pivots and extends the arm, Ken falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Tate! Well done that man!
