The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mayes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Heggie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mayes defends it nicely.

Mayes drives through and clinches with Heggie against the cage.
Heggie wants to get back to striking at distance but Mayes won't allow it.

Heggie throws out a loose jab but Mayes uses good head movement to avoid it.
Heggie throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mayes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Heggie connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
No joy there for Mayes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Heggie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Good exchange - Heggie coming out on top.

Mayes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Mayes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Heggie tries to buck Mayes off but Mayes is having none of it.
Heggie tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mayes presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
BOOM! Mayes connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Mayes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mayes breaks from Heggie's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
