PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gator Bait (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Riviere (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riviere comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Le Vagabond kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gator Bait!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Riviere!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riviere looks to land a body kick but Bait moved away.
Bait throws a push kick but Riviere slaps the foot to one side.
Jean Riviere seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Riviere motions for Bait to come forward. Riviere throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Bait closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bait is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Bait working over Riviere with some ground and pound. Riviere looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Bait controlling the action here.
Bait throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Riviere taking some punishment here, with Bait in his half guard.
Bait wants to control but Riviere is keeping him busy.

Bait is taking a breather. Riviere says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Riviere really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bait. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bait prevents Riviere from improving his position.
Bait trying to mount his opponent but Riviere defends it.
Riviere is refusing to be controlled, as Bait sits in half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Riviere slips a jab from Bait.

Bait connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

and Bait counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bait.

Bait stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Riviere swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Riviere working for a triangle but Bait defends it easily.
Riviere can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bait controls the pace.
Bait has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Riviere looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Bait puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Riviere tries to roll over but Bait keeps him under control.
Riviere is refusing to be controlled, as Bait sits in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Riviere wants to improve his position but Bait is controlling well.

Bait takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Bait cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Riviere connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bait's hands.

Jean Riviere showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Bait closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Riviere takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bait is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Riviere is trying to control but can't.

Bait seems to be looking for submissions.
Riviere is not content to let Bait control the position.
Riviere on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Bait is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Riviere reverses the position - he's now on top in Bait's guard.
Riviere seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Bait wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Bait is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bait manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Riviere manages to get himself to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Riviere can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bait tries to free his leg and advance position but Riviere is retaining full guard.
