PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vann Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vann Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Harry Slater!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater lands with a straight right. Knight didn't see that one coming.
Slater on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Knight connects with a body shot.
Knight connects with a single shot there.
Knight misses with a head kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Knight.
A low kick from Knight is predictable there

and Slater decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Knight's guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Slater working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Slater has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knight tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Slater is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Knight has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Slater controlling from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Knight is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Slater is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Knight ducks under a wild hook from Slater.
Slater slips a jab from Knight.
Slater throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Knight jabs Slater right on the nose. Slater blinks but takes it well.
Knight takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A left lands for Slater.
Knight fails to land with a series of punches.
Vann Knight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Knight tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Knight finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Knight shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Knight chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Knight swings away with a body shot that misses

and Slater counters with a single leg into guard. Knight didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Knight is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Slater is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Slater manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Slater working for a triangle but Knight defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Knight wants to control from the top but Slater keeps moving.
Knight is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Slater is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Slater is looking to cinch up a triangle. Knight throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Slater's body to avoid the submission. Slater has instead reached around Knight's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Slater arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Harry Slater!
Harry Slater spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
