Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Kenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 23 - 4, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrick Kenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsuyo Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maeda throws a leg kick but Kenzie checks it.
Maeda fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kenzie is out of range.
Kenzie fails to land with a series of punches.
Maeda shoots in but Kenzie avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kenzie has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Warehouse in the buildup to the fight.
Maeda pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Maeda fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Kenzie tries to clinch up but Maeda circles away and keeps his distance.

Maeda looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Kenzie tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Maeda wants to pass the guard but Kenzie is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maeda wants to control from the top but Kenzie keeps moving.
Maeda throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kenzie works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Maeda slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Maeda takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Maeda fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Kenzie checks it well.
Kenzie thows a left - swing and a miss!
Maeda walks into a stiff left hand from Kenzie.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kenzie is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Maeda tried to score with a low kick but Kenzie checks it.
Kenzie is looking to clinch but Maeda is avoiding it.
Maeda bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Maeda throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kenzie loads up on a big right hand but Maeda slips the punch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kenzie jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kenzie is looking to clinch.
Kenzie slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Kenzie ducks under a wild hook from Maeda.
Kenzie getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Maeda looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Maeda tries to pass to full mount but Kenzie defends it.
Kenzie on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Kenzie trying to hold on to Maeda's head to control him but Maeda postures up.
Maeda is keen to just control but Kenzie is a slippery customer.

Maeda is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kenzie won't allow Maeda to pass to mount.
Kenzie moves into full guard.
Maeda trying to control but Kenzie is working from the bottom.
Maeda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kenzie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mitsuyo Maeda dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kenzie moves out of range of the body kick.
Kenzie misses with a body shot.
Kenzie throws a series of punches but Maeda avoids them all with ease.
Maeda lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Maeda.
Maeda moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Nice shot by Kenzie.
Maeda is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Kenzie misses with a looping right.
Kenzie moves out of range of the strikes.
Kenzie throws a lazy right hand but Maeda sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kenzie looks to land a right hand but Maeda moved out of range.
Maeda tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kenzie slips under a jab from Maeda.
Maeda avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice straight punches there by Kenzie. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Kenzie.
Kenzie throws a body punch but Maeda moves out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Maeda circles away from the clinch attempt.

Nice jab there from Kenzie.

Maeda has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Kenzie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Maeda.
Maeda scores with a leg kick.

Kenzie is fighting to break Maeda's control of his arms but Maeda is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Kenzie wants to stand but Maeda has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kenzie wants to control from the top but Maeda keeps moving.
Mitsuyo Maeda has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kenzie fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maeda, pushing him back against the cage.

Kenzie tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Kenzie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maeda.
Kenzie wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Kenzie connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Maeda's hands.

Kenzie is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Kenzie tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Maeda paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A lazy left from Maeda finds it's target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The fight stays on the outside here - Kenzie looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Maeda swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Maeda looks to throw the jab but Kenzie is out of range.
Maeda looks for a takedown but Kenzie sprawls well.
Maeda throws the left hand but Kenzie avoids the punch easily.

Maeda manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kenzie on his heels. He'll look to pass Kenzie's guard now, I'm sure.

A close second round but Mitsuyo Maeda will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Kenzie connects with a nice looking jab.
Maeda takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Maeda moves forwards but Kenzie connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Maeda uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kenzie.
Kenzie is looking to clinch but Maeda is avoiding it.
Maeda avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maeda ducks under a wild hook from Kenzie.
Kenzie lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Maeda throws a right and a left that Kenzie avoids nicely.
Maeda misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maeda throws a wild body kick that Kenzie sees coming a mile off.

Kenzie lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Kenzie looks to land a right hand but Maeda moved out of range.
Maeda shoots in looking for a takedown. Kenzie tries to sprawl out of it but Maeda keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kenzie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Maeda connects with a crisp jab.
Kenzie on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Maeda bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Kenzie's head backwards.
Kenzie throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Maeda lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kenzie enables Maeda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kenzie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kenzie pulls Maeda in close to his closed guard and prevents Maeda from doing any damage or advancing position.
Maeda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Patrick Kenzie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Maeda looking to sit in guard and control but Kenzie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kenzie tries to stand but Maeda is controlling from the bottom.
Maeda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Maeda has a closed guard, preventing Kenzie from standing up.
Kenzie is fighting to break Maeda's control of his arms but Maeda is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maeda can't keep his opponent in guard - Kenzie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kenzie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maeda's head.
Kenzie tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Maeda.
Kenzie uses his free foot to push down on Maeda's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Maeda.
Kenzie avoids the attempt from Maeda to control.
Maeda is looking to get to half guard.
Kenzie throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Kenzie lands a big elbow.
Maeda is looking to improve his position but Kenzie isn't that keen on the idea.
Maeda is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Maeda wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Maeda can't escape the position.
Kenzie tries to get the hooks in deep but Maeda pushed the leg off.
Kenzie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
I really don't envy Maeda right now.

Kenzie looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Maeda is controlling Kenzie 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Patrick Kenzie showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Maeda has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
