PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Oston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Garcio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcio has chosen Strange Behaviour as his entrance music. The key to victory for Ricardo Oston has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Oston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Felipe Garcio!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oston wants to clinch
and Garcio counters with a slapping leg kick.

Garcio has Oston up against the cage in a clinch.
Oston wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Garcio connects with a nasty looking knee right to Oston's face.

Garcio jumps guard and drags Oston to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Oston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garcio swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garcio escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oston gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Oston is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Garcio is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Oston is really struggling to control Garcio but he's trying to hold on to the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Oston is looking to stand up but Garcio won't let him.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Garcio told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Garcio wants to control but Oston is keeping busy.

Oston is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Garcio makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Oston really felt that one!

and Garcio counters with a nice low kick that buckles Oston's knee momentarily.
Garcio lands a nice leg kick that just misses Oston's sensitive parts.
Garcio leaves Oston with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Garcio is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Garcio is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Oston is aware though and is defending well.

Garcio has his foot on Oston's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Oston works his way back into a safe position though.
Oston wants to stand and escape but instead Garcio has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Garcio working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Oston doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oston manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Garcio has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Garcio stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Garcio wants it to stay on the feet.

Felipe Garcio showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Oston changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Garcio tries to avoid it but Oston manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Garcio to the ground. Garcio escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Horrible takedown attempt by Garcio or perhaps it was just good defense by Oston, which made it look bad.

Garcio feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Oston tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Garcio swivels and escapes.
Garcio closes this distance looking for a takedown but Oston circles away.

Ricardo Oston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Felipe Garcio comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Garcio has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
