PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Terry Mcdermott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruslan Hagush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcdermott comes to the cage accompanied by Broken Wings. On his way into the cage it seems that Terry Mcdermott has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Terry Mcdermott seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Terry Mcdermott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ruslan Hagush!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hagush enables Mcdermott to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hagush manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcdermott looks to land a strike but Hagush avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcdermott postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hagush looks a forlorn figure.
Mcdermott will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mcdermott has hold of Hagush's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Hagush manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Hagush is desperately trying to improve his position but Mcdermott has a good base and remains in mount.
Hagush is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Hagush felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Mcdermott swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Hagush is now in Mcdermott's guard. A big mistake from Mcdermott there, giving up the dominant position!

Mcdermott had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hagush defends it easily.

Mcdermott postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hagush is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mcdermott, into his guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcdermott accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mcdermott is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hagush knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hagush tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mcdermott wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hagush really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcdermott. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mcdermott lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hagush down.

Mcdermott goes for a double leg but Hagush avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hagush continues to drive forward.

We've been hearing good reports from Mcdermott's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mcdermott, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
