PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nub Nodes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nub Nodes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Lopez!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lopez dives in and scores a takedown into Nodes's guard.
Lopez wants to control from the top but Nodes keeps moving.
Lopez wants to pass the guard but Nodes is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lopez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lopez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lopez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nodes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lopez somewhat.

Lopez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nodes's guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lopez working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Lopez thows a huge punch but Nodes dodges it nicely.

Nodes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Lopez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

It looks like Tony Lopez has been cut.

Nodes is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Lopez asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Lopez goes for a double leg but Nodes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nodes continues to drive forward.

Nodes wants to break free but Lopez has control.

Nub Nodes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Lopez.

Lopez is trying to drag Nodes to the mat but Nodes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A frustrated look appears on Nodes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Lopez is working for takedown but Nodes is calmly controlling the position for now.
Lopez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Lopez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lopez.
Lopez fails with the takedown.
Nodes stuffs the takedown.
Lopez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lopez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Nodes scores with a punch to the head.
Lopez shoots in looking for a takedown but Nodes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lopez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Nodes feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Lopez sprawling to the canvas! Lopez rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Nodes finish him?!

That has opened up Tony Lopez's cut even more.
Lopez drops his hands momentarily. Nodes doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Lopez staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Lopez doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
