PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hoody Hooty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Marcon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hoody Hooty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rodrigo Marcon!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Peter Branson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hooty takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Marcon throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Hooty closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Marcon to the mat! Marcon manages to get full guard.
Marcon wants to stand up but Hooty is controlling him.
Hooty working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Marcon's head.
Hooty sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Marcon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hooty. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hooty has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hooty drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hooty jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hooty controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marcon working for a triangle but Hooty defends it easily.
Hooty engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hooty avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hooty will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Marcon throws a sloppy head kick and Hooty moves out of range easily.

Hooty is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Marcon bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Hooty throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marcon was covering up waiting for the punch and Hooty finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Marcon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hooty manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Marcon throws a half hearted mid kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hooty.
Marcon doesn't manage to clinch there - Hooty circles away.
Hooty slips under a jab from Marcon.

Marcon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hooty seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Marcon for as long as he can get away with.
Marcon is looking to stand up but Hooty isn't so interested in that idea.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Marcon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Marcon fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Hooty checks it well.

Hooty shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hooty showed some decent athleticism there.

Hooty thows a huge punch but Marcon dodges it nicely.

Hooty is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Marcon will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Marcon is looking for a sweep.
Hooty has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Marcon is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hooty is controlling him well.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hooty shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Marcon as he jumps to the side.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Marcon rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hooty counters with a three punch combo that has Marcon backing up. Marcon nods at Hooty to acknowledge the strikes.
Marcon tries to clinch but Hooty is having none of it.
Hooty shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marcon pinned against the cage. Marcon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hooty.

Hoody Hooty overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Marcon is trying to get back to his feet.
Marcon sneaks back into half guard.
Hooty content to control rather than advance.

Marcon looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hooty has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Hooty controlling the position easily from mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hooty fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hooty cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Hooty has hold of Marcon's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Marcon manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Marcon squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Hooty controlling his opponent.
Marcon is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hooty looking to control and managing it successfully.
Hooty lands with some strikes.
Hooty prevents Marcon from getting the reversal.
Hooty takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Marcon's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hooty, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
