PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Beck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sir Wesley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beck comes to the cage accompanied by Seek n Destroy. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sir Wesley!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beck scores with a jab. Wesley acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Beck misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Wesley.
Wesley throws a series of strikes that have Beck backpedaling.


It looks like John Beck has been cut.
Beck lands the left hand.

Wesley closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Beck wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Beck keeps control of Wesley as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Wesley softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Wesley fails to land.
I was talking to Beck's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Wesley is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Wesley is trying to break free.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Beck.
Beck blocks an uppercut.
Wesley throws a head punch that misses.
A frustrated look appears on Beck's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Wesley misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Wesley swings wildly with an uppercut but Beck uses good head movement to avoid it.
Beck blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Beck takes an elbow to the forehead.
Wesley misses with a short punch on the inside.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Wesley has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Wesley looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Beck breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Beck fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Wesley misses with a kick to the body.
Beck uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wesley.
Wesley looks for the body kick but Beck saw that one coming.
Wesley tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Beck manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Beck displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Wesley throws out the jab.

A telegraphed right hand from Beck misses the target.
Beck uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Wesley.
Beck throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Wesley counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Beck connects with a looping right hand.
Beck misses with a double jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Beck bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
John Beck is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A looping hook to the body misses from Beck. Wesley does a little dance to reset his feet.
Beck throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Beck misses with a straight right.
Wesley avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A punch lands to the side of Wesley 's head but he takes it in his stride.
A looping hook to the body misses from Beck. Wesley does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nice jab there from Wesley.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice straight punches there by Beck. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Beck.
Beck misses with a lunging right hand

and Wesley counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Wesley.

Beck breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wesley tries to land a front kick but Beck steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Beck swings for the body but Wesley moves out of range.
The fighters circle momentarily. Beck darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Wesley misses with a hook. Beck ducked under it nicely.

Beck drops Wesley with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Wesley looks back up at him and smiles so Beck waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Wesley is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Beck connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Wesley covering up! Beck comes in with a big uppercut and Wesley goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). John Beck!
After winning the bout, John Beck thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
