Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Miller!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller keeps the fight on the outside.

Bates closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Miller quickly recovers to half guard.
Miller punching from the bottom.
Miller has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Miller wants to control but Bates is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Miller is pressing down on Bates's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bates throws a big elbow that misses.
Bates preventing the sweep.
Bates wants to control from the top but Miller keeps moving.
Miller bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bates's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bates can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Miller controls the pace.
Miller stops Bates from standing up.

Miller drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Miller jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bates seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Miller throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bates works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Miller slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Bates.
Miller looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bates is refusing to be controlled, as Miller sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller wants to free his trapped foot but Bates is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Miller is trying to control. Bates wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Miller keeps the fight on the outside.
Miller looks to throw the jab but Bates is out of range.
Bates does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Miller gets a double leg takedown into Bates's guard.
Miller postures up.

Miller throws a big elbow that misses.
Bates is adopting a defensive guard.
Miller's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Miller wants to control from the top but Bates keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miller pushing down on Bates's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Bates regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Miller.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Miller trying to control but Bates is working from the bottom.
Miller is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Miller thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Miller controlling from the top position.
Miller throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Miller dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bates avoids the body shot from Miller.

Bates drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jake Miller has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bates stopping the sweep attempt from Miller.
Bates wants to control from the top but Miller keeps moving.
Miller is pulling down on Bates's head to control his posture.

Miller has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Bates doesn't defend quickly enough and Miller has managed to lock this one up! Can Bates escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Miller on a fantastic submission victory.
