The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barnes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Matwijenko moves away.

Matwijenko throws a right and a left that both miss.

Barnes pivots, looking for a leg kick but Matwijenko is out of range and Barnes settles back down.
Barnes throws a hook to the side of Matwijenko's head but Matwijenko sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Barnes counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Matwijenko tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Barnes looks to score with a jab to the body but Matwijenko is just out of range.
Matwijenko throws a push kick but Barnes slaps the foot to one side.
Matwijenko scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Barnes feints and then cracks Matwijenko's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Matwijenko down.

and Barnes counters with a nice uppercut.

Barnes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

A slow jab from Matwijenko misses its intended target.
Matwijenko misses with a double jab.
Matwijenko throws a predictable looking body shot
and Matwijenko takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Matwijenko lands with an uppercut that bounces Barnes off the cage and back into range.
Barnes thumps Matwijenko with a low kick.

and Barnes counters by clinching up.
Barnes misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Barnes utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Matwijenko tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Matwijenko wants to break free but Barnes has control.
Barnes blocks the elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Iwan Matwijenko will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Barnes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Matwijenko is defending well for now.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Barnes.
Barnes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Matwijenko fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Barnes has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Barnes has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Barnes there as he acknowledges the shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barnes cracks Matwijenko on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Matwijenko falls backwards against the cage. Barnes follows up with more strikes that drop Matwijenko to his knees. Barnes keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Matwijenko! This one is all over!
