PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Steveson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jah Joppe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Joe Steveson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Joe Steveson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Steveson fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Steveson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Joppe is trying to keep an underhook but Steveson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steveson wants to stand up but Joppe is controlling the position.
Joppe is trying is best to control the position here.
Joppe tries to roll over but Steveson keeps him under control.
Joppe blocking the ground and pound attempt from Steveson.
Steveson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Steveson lands a head kick. Joppe smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Joppe tries to free his leg and advance position but Steveson is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Steveson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Joppe tries to avoid it but Steveson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Joppe to the ground. Joppe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Steveson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Joppe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A nice inside leg kick there by Joppe. That's going to slow Steveson down.
Joppe feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Steveson's calf.

Joppe is trying to drag Steveson to the mat but Steveson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Joppe connects with a nasty looking knee right to Steveson's face.

Joppe is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Steveson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Steveson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Joppe bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Steveson wants to control but Joppe postures up.
Steveson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Steveson wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Steveson is not content to let Joppe control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
You can see the frustration on Steveson's face as Joppe controls the position.
Joppe tries to move to mount but Steveson blocks the move with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Steveson will probably get the nod.

Joppe isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Steveson stacks Joppe on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Steveson!

Steveson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Joppe shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Steveson pinned against the cage. Steveson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Steveson counters with a good, hard body kick but Joppe shrugs it off.
Steveson moves in looking to clinch but Joppe pushes him off.

Nice takedown defense from Joppe. No joy for Steveson on that attempt.
Steveson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Joppe is fending him off so far but Steveson persists. Nope, Joppe circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Steveson shoots in looking for a takedown. Joppe tries to sprawl out of it but Steveson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Joppe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Joppe has taken the fight to the clinch.

Steveson slowing the pace effectively.
Joppe looking to throw knees to the head but Steveson is blocking nicely.
Steveson tries to pull guard but Joppe holds him up against the cage and eventually Steveson drops back down to his feet.

Come on Joppe - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Jah Joppe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Steveson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
