PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan De La Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De La Cruz has chosen Party at 802 as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jerry Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Juan De La Cruz!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with De La Cruz, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes De La Cruz against the cage but De La Cruz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jerry Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
De La Cruz looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Silva gets a takedown into half guard.
Silva not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

De La Cruz kicks Silva off and gets back to his feet.

Silva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. De La Cruz sprawls well initially but Silva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and De La Cruz defends it well.
Silva throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing De La Cruz to regain full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
De La Cruz tries to bum rush Silva with a series of wild strikes but Silva uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Silva gets the takedown into side control.
De La Cruz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Silva asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Silva tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

De La Cruz regains half guard, as Silva was trying to land strikes.
Silva thows a huge punch but De La Cruz dodges it nicely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Silva is keen to just control but De La Cruz is a slippery customer.
Silva is stalling here. De La Cruz is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Silva seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and De La Cruz has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Silva is looking to regain half guard here but De La Cruz keeps moving and retains side control.
Silva manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Silva is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but De La Cruz pulls his head out easily.
Silva is looking for a sweep. De La Cruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Silva dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. De La Cruz defends it nicely.
Silva misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A right-left combo lands from De La Cruz.

De La Cruz scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Silva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
De La Cruz is breathing heavily.

De La Cruz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Silva sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Silva is looking to regain half guard here but De La Cruz keeps moving and retains side control.

De La Cruz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
De La Cruz wants to stand up but Silva is controlling the position.
Jerry Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

De La Cruz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. De La Cruz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. De La Cruz is aware though and is defending well.

De La Cruz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and De La Cruz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

De La Cruz stands up from half guard.
Silva tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but De La Cruz defends well and Silva ends up having to push De La Cruz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Silva wants to break the clinch but can't.

De La Cruz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Silva goes for a double leg but De La Cruz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as De La Cruz continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerry Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The referee is keeping an eye on De La Cruz - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Silva has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. De La Cruz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

De La Cruz jumps guard.
Silva won't allow De La Cruz to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Juan De La Cruz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nice takedown defense from De La Cruz. No joy for Silva on that attempt.
Silva shoots in and drives through. De La Cruz sprawls well.
De La Cruz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Silva moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
De La Cruz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Silva shoots in but no luck this time.
Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but De La Cruz avoids it really well and circles away.
De La Cruz throws out a loose jab but Silva uses good head movement to avoid it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silva.

De La Cruz forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De La Cruz lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
De La Cruz tries to break free but Silva pushes him back against the cage.

Silva turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
De La Cruz is trying to get back to his feet.
Silva lands an elbow.
Silva wants to control but De La Cruz is keeping him busy.

De La Cruz is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Silva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by De La Cruz, who protects the arm well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Silva moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Juan De La Cruz.
I think De La Cruz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
