PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Enoch Durham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Sabu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Will Sabu will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Enoch Durham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Will Sabu!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sabu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Durham throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Sabu blocks the strikes from Durham.
Durham is looking to reverse the position.

Sabu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Durham, who protects the arm well.
Durham is trying to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sabu blocks the strikes from Durham.

Sabu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Durham has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sabu but great work by Durham.

Durham wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sabu keeps working.
Durham cracks Sabu with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Durham trying to control the action but Sabu is working from the bottom.

Durham is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sabu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Durham cracks Sabu with a big right hand but Sabu just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Durham in side control, throwing shots but Sabu defends.
Durham landing a few strikes.
Durham wants to stand but Sabu has his arm trapped.
Sabu being controlled for a moment.
Sabu is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Durham postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Durham decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Sabu throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Durham tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sabu is in Durham's guard.
Sabu tries to free his leg and advance position but Durham is retaining full guard.
Durham is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sabu won't allow Durham to get back to his feet.
Durham is striking off his back. Sabu thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Durham lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Durham trying to control but Sabu postures up.
Durham is looking to escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sabu closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sabu lands in his opponent's guard.
Durham wants to stand but Sabu is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Sabu dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Sabu gets a takedown into half guard.
Durham tries to roll over but Sabu keeps him under control.
Durham regains full guard. Nicely done.
Durham will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Durham is trying to keep Sabu in close.
Durham throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Durham striking off his back but it's not causing Sabu any problems.
Durham lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Durham connects with a couple of short punches.
Durham content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Durham looking to sit in guard and control but Sabu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Durham lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Durham postures up and lands a big shot to Sabu's brow.
Durham wants to stand and escape but instead Sabu has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Durham is on top in guard.

Durham passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sabu regains half guard, as Durham was trying to land strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Durham missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Durham really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Durham prevents Sabu from improving his position.
Durham is looking to stall here but Sabu recovers full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sabu escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Durham gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sabu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Durham makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Enoch Durham will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Sabu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Durham to the ground. Sabu is now in Durham's guard.
Sabu prevents Durham from getting back to his feet.
Durham is trying to hold Sabu in close to prevent damage but Sabu has managed to pass into half guard.
Durham tries to roll over but Sabu keeps him under control.

Sabu is working for a kimura but Durham is defending it quite comfortably.

Durham is trying to escape back to his feet but Sabu uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Durham is looking for a sweep.
Durham is trying to get back to his feet.
Durham throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Durham tries to strike but it doesn't land.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Durham darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Durham is looking to stall here but Sabu recovers full guard.
Durham trying to control the position from guard on top but Sabu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Will Sabu has got the better of the ground game so far.

Durham throwing strikes from guard but Sabu blocks nicely.
Durham throws an elbow that misses. Sabu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Durham's guard. Nice move by Sabu!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sabu stands and throws Durham's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Durham's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Durham tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sabu has an Americana. Durham didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Sabu is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Sabu hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Will Sabu!
After winning the bout, Will Sabu thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
