Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Newton Barlow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Bessac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Scott Bessac enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Newton Barlow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Bessac!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Chad Campbell and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bessac leaves Barlow with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bessac fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Newton Barlow has been cut.
Bessac throws a leg kick that misses.
Bessac lands a slapping body shot.
Barlow could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bessac looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Bessac tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Barlow paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bessac throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Bessac throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barlow was covering up waiting for the punch and Bessac finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Barlow pulls Bessac in close to prevent any damage.

Barlow seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Barlow lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Bessac looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Barlow passes into half guard.

Barlow is looking for a kimura but Bessac is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Barlow to get the leverage.

Barlow is thwarting Bessac's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bessac is trying to get back to full guard.
Bessac wants to control but Barlow is keeping busy.

Bessac is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Barlow pulls his head out easily.

Bessac felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Barlow has one foot on Bessac's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Bessac is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Barlow sees it coming and defends easily.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Barlow shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Bessac closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Barlow's guard.
Barlow pulls Bessac in to control the position.
Bessac scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Barlow seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bessac stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barlow swivels though and keeps the full guard.

You can see the frustration on Barlow's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Barlow sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Barlow manages to get to full guard.
Bessac sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Barlow's guard.
Bessac has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Barlow works to full guard.

Barlow pulls Bessac in to control the position.

Barlow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bessac has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barlow has managed to get both his arms back between Bessac's legs - danger averted.

Barlow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bessac does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Barlow holds on and takes a little breather.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Newton Barlow.
Well Bessac has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
