PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shane Doby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter McBain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doby comes to the cage accompanied by International Players Anthem. McBain is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Harder Than You Think by Public Enemy. Shane Doby is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Doby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter McBain!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McBain tries a head kick but it misses.
McBain gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Doby counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for McBain!
We've been hearing good reports from Doby's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
McBain avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Doby.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Doby postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Doby closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Doby slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McBain wants to stand and escape but Doby is having none of it.

McBain gets caught flat footed, as Doby shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Doby with a flurry of punches that miss.
Doby trying to control the position from guard on top but McBain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

McBain throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Doby on the side of the head.
McBain moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

McBain is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

McBain will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Doby shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McBain as he avoids it easily.

and Doby counters with a nice double leg into side control. McBain won't be happy with that.

McBain is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
McBain is not content to let Doby control the position.

The ground and pound from Doby seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Doby tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Doby misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That was a close second round but I would say that Shane Doby will probably get the nod.

McBain thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Doby if he has to take too many more of those.
