PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva has chosen Wilhelm Richard Wagner - Flight Of The Valkyries as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Carter !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Silva!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Carter looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Carter throws a sloppy head kick

and Silva counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Silva trying to control the position but instead, Carter has worked for underhooks and has pushed Silva into the cage.
Silva prevents the takedown attempt.

Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Carter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carter sprawls well. Carter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.
A head kick by Carter misses
and Silva counters with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Carter at a distance.

Silva has closed the distance and engaged Carter in a clinch.
Carter tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Silva's elbow.

Carter 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Silva darts in looking for a takedown but Carter gets double underhooks and turns Silva into the cage.

Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Silva has a takedown stuffed.
Marcus Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Silva.

Silva drives through with a takedown into guard.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Carter looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter , not yet.
Silva wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.

Silva won't allow Carter to sweep him here.
Silva would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Carter misses with a takedown attempt - Silva sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Silva gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Silva unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Silva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carter avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Silva breaks the clinch.
Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Silva feints and as Carter raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Carter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Carter wants to sweep here but Silva controlling him for the moment.

Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carter . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Silva lands a couple of digs.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Carter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter is thwarting Silva's attempts to control the position.

Carter stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Silva to get to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Silva dominated that round.
That's time! Carter 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Carter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Silva's waist but Silva gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carter off to one side.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carter sprawls well. Carter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Carter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carter wants it to stay on the feet.
Marcus Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Silva.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Silva is defended easily by Carter .
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.

Silva fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Carter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Marcus Carter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Silva goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Silva gets caught napping as Carter dives in and scores a takedown. Silva manages to retain guard.
Silva is trying to control the position but Carter postures up.
We've been hearing good reports from Carter 's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Carter throws a big right hand that misses.
Carter stands and throws Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carter content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Silva is looking for a sweep.

You can see the frustration on Silva's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Carter has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Carter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Silva moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carter was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carter is on top in guard.


Carter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carter has managed to get both his arms back between Silva's legs - danger averted.
Carter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Silva throws his legs up looking for a submission but Carter uses it to pass to side control.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Carter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Silva to the mat! Silva manages to get full guard.
Carter wanted to stand there but Silva had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Silva, up you get!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Silva won't allow Carter to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Carter is retaining full guard.

Silva lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Carter looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Carter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Silva is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carter slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Marcus Carter showed his dominance in that final round.
