Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Meldrick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Slate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Meldrick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Slate!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slate shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely.
Meldrick Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slate checks a low kick from Johnson.
Slate avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Johnson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Johnson moves into range and clinches up with Slate.
Slate looking for a takedown.
Johnson wants a takedown but no success here.
Slate is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Slate has hold of one of Johnson's legs. Johnson is fighting the takedown attempt but Slate gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Slate stops Johnson from standing up.
Johnson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson keeping moving, preventing Slate from controlling successfully.
Slate might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Slate loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Slate throwing strikes from guard but Johnson blocks nicely.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A solid leg kick lands there for Johnson.
Slate shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Johnson as he avoids it easily.
Meldrick Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Slate.
Horrible takedown attempt by Slate or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson, which made it look bad.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Slate circles away and keeps his distance.

Meldrick Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Johnson connects with a leg kick. Slate looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Johnson keeps the fight on the outside.
Johnson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Slate pushes him off.

A jab from Slate misses.
Slate dives in for a single leg takedown but Johnson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.

Slate decides to pull guard.
Slate bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard.

Slate is looking to work some ground and pound but Johnson has wrist control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Slate is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Slate cracks Johnson with a solid left hand.
Slate wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Slate postures up and lands a big shot to Johnson's brow.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Slate wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
Slate loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Slate throwing strikes but missing.
Slate throws a strike but Johnson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Johnson is breathing heavily.

Johnson is sitting in close to Slate's body. Slate has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Johnson is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Johnson is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Slate.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Adam Slate!
Our winner, Adam Slate, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
