PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kogata Munoz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Georgio Socrates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Socrates has chosen Tool - Schism as his entrance music. Georgio Socrates will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kogata Munoz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Georgio Socrates!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Socrates tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Munoz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Munoz circles away from the clinch attempt.

Socrates fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Munoz, pushing him back against the cage.
Socrates lands a body shot in the clinch.
Munoz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Munoz goes for a takedown attempt but Socrates pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Munoz gets tackled into the cage by Socrates. Socrates maintains the clinch.
Socrates creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Munoz's defenses.
Socrates is pressed up against the cage. Munoz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Socrates down to the mat. Socrates avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kogata Munoz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Munoz swats away the attempt to clinch by Socrates.
Socrates tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Munoz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Socrates closes the distance but Munoz moves to the side

and Munoz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Socrates won't be happy with that.
Socrates dodges the ground and pound from Munoz.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Socrates tries to escape but Munoz is in control.
Socrates felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Munoz is trying to ground and pound but Socrates uses the momentary lack of control by Munoz to regain half guard.

Socrates has one foot on Munoz's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Munoz.
Socrates is looking to clinch but Munoz is avoiding it.

Socrates tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Munoz paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Munoz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Socrates but Socrates pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Socrates tries to land a knee to the head but Munoz blocks with his arms.
Munoz is looking to take this one to the mat.
Socrates lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Munoz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Socrates jumps into guard, dragging Munoz to the mat.
Socrates wants to get back to his feet but Munoz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Socrates keeping moving, preventing Munoz from controlling successfully.

Socrates is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Munoz presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Munoz works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Socrates is looking to stand up but Munoz isn't so interested in that idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Munoz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Socrates wants to stand up but Munoz is controlling him.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Munoz keeps the fight on the outside.

Socrates pushes Munoz off and gets back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Socrates darts in trying to clinch

so Munoz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

A close round but Georgio Socrates will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Munoz shoots for a double leg takedown but Socrates sprawls well. He's pushed Munoz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Munoz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Socrates pinned against the cage. Socrates gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kogata Munoz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Socrates moves in looking to clinch but Munoz pushes him off.
Munoz goes for a double leg but Socrates avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Socrates continues to drive forward.
Munoz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Socrates after a bit of a struggle.

Munoz is trying to drag Socrates to the mat but Socrates just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Munoz drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Socrates gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Socrates is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Munoz defends it well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kogata Munoz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Socrates might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Munoz haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Socrates slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

I would just about give that final round to Georgio Socrates.
I've got Socrates winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
