The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maeda is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sandoval.
Sandoval ducks under a wild hook from Maeda.

Maeda throws a hook but Sandoval avoids it easily.
Maeda misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sandoval bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Maeda's head backwards.

Sandoval walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sandoval throws a low kick but Maeda avoids it.

Maeda closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Maeda lands in his opponent's guard.

Sandoval is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Maeda wants to take a breather but Sandoval is having none of it.

Maeda is just content to waste time from the top position. Sandoval takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Sandoval is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sandoval is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've been hearing good reports from Maeda's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Maeda connects with a couple of short punches.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maeda accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sandoval looking for a triangle here. Maeda is fighting it but it looks tight! Sandoval pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Maeda is tapping out - this one is all over!
