PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Correa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Fernando (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Correa comes into the arena with jurassic 5 blaring out of the sound system. Paulo Fernando will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Correa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Fernando!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernando changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Correa tries to avoid it but Fernando manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Correa to the ground. Correa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Correa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nice sprawl there from Correa as Fernando shoots in.
Pedro Correa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Fernando.

Fernando decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Fernando is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Correa is just riding it out for now. Fernando eventually gives up the hold.

Fernando seems to be working for a kimura but Correa defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fernando wants to pass the guard but Correa is defending well.

Fernando is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fernando is looking to take a break and control but Correa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Fernando is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Correa defends it well.
Correa scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Fernando manages to mount him!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fernando is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Correa has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Fernando stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Pedro Correa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Correa connects with an inside leg kick.
Correa fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Fernando has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Fernando fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Correa looks for the body kick but Fernando saw that one coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fernando on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Fernando blocks a low kick nicely.
Fernando shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Correa but Correa pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fernando goes for a double leg but Correa avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Correa continues to drive forward.

Correa manages to break the clinch.
Correa feints and then cracks Fernando's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Fernando down.
Correa throws a nice looking combination but Fernando bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Correa throws a right and a left that Fernando avoids nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Correa just misses with a punch to the body.
Fernando blocks a leg kick.
Correa moves in looking to clinch but Fernando pushes him off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nice body punch from Correa.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fernando.

Fernando closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Correa's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Paulo Fernando will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Fernando shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Correa but Correa pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Correa misses with a hook. Fernando ducked under it nicely.
Correa fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Fernando.
Correa scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Correa has closed the distance and engaged Fernando in a clinch.
Correa is pressed up against the cage. Fernando has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Correa down to the mat. Correa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Pedro Correa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Correa rushes Fernando and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Correa putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Fernando in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Fernando is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Correa is defending well.
Pedro Correa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Fernando.
Fernando jumps guard but Correa turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Correa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fernando can do to turn this around?

Fernando is trying to break free.

Correa lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Fernando or not.
Fernando is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Correa lands an elbow that stopped Fernando in his tracks for a moment.
Fernando is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Correa lands an elbow just above Fernando 's eye.
Correa lands with a light punch inside.
Correa with a knee to the head.

Correa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fernando tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
A combination from Correa does no damage.
Pedro Correa is winning the standup battle so far.
Correa fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Correa feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Fernandos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Correa gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Correa is defending well against a takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Correa prevents the takedown attempt.

Correa manages to break the clinch.

Correa drives through and clinches with Fernando against the cage.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Correa.
Correa misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Fernando.
Correa works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Fernando wants a takedown but no success here.
Correa lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Correa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fernando with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Correa to score with a decent uppercut.


Fernando is rocked!
Correa with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Fernando is still on wobbly legs! Can Correa finish him?
Fernando shoots in for a takedown but Correa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Correa lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Fernando out cold! Fernando is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Pedro Correa!
